Our volunteer network

Do you want to get involved in livestock protection?

We are looking for people who can help shepherds and livestock farmers in their daily work in Bavaria, Austria and Trentino-South Tyrol. The volunteers help livestock farmers in the valley and the shepherds on the mountain pastures. Tasks may include erecting/dismantling and checking fences to protect the herd, pasture maintenance and herding the flock.

Livestock protection poses an additional challenge and we want to support those affected.

The network also offers volunteers the opportunity to experience the challenges, but also the beauty of working in rural areas at first hand – a unique and unforgettable experience!

You can choose between two options:

ZamZäunen

Here, livestock farmers and shepherds are supported through daily work in the valley. The locations can be reached by car or public transport. This initiative is organised in cooperation with Wikiwolves Bayern and is ONLY available in Bavaria.

Important information:

  • It includes mainly 1-2 days fence construction, sometimes “night watch” or mowing depending on availability
  • Board is provided by the livestock farmer
  • A member from LIFEstockProtect will support you with registration and familiarisation with your new working environment
  • If you have any problems or questions during your voluntary placement, you can contact the LIFEstockProtect team at any time
  • German or English language skills required

PASTURS

Here, livestock farmers and shepherds are supported through longer periods of work on mountain pastures in summer (all three regions) or on the farm in the valley (Bavaria). The volunteers learn how livestock protection can be implemented, how to build fences, how to look after the cattle and much more. Basically, they help livestock farmers and shepherds in their daily work.

Important information:

  • Minimum age of 18 years at the beginning of the placement
  • Minimum stay is 1 week, maximum stay 3 months
  • Board is provided by livestock farmers or shepherds. Travelling expenses are paid by the volunteer
  • Be aware that you may spend time in remote areas and in difficult conditions (exposed terrain, bad weather)
  • It is necessary to be in good physical condition
  • Own dogs may not be brought along
  • A member from LIFEstockProtect will support you with registration and familiarisation with your new working environment
  • If you have any problems or questions during your voluntary placement, you can contact the LIFEstockProtect team at any time
