Pasture farming is multifaceted: animal welfare and preservation of alpine pastures are in the foreground of this topic. Fair working conditions for shepherds and the sale of high quality produce should be as much a part of modern alpine economy as organisational structures and subsidies. On the 29th of September, an expert panel discussed the complexities of pasture farming as part of an information evening hosted by Naturmuseum South Tyrol and Teatro Cristallo within the framework of LIFEstockProtect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maurizio Ramanzin, professor at the University of Padua and expert for natural and cultural landscapes as well as livestock breeding in the Alps; Davide Righetti, wildlife biologist and employee of the Office for Hunting and Fishing; Marco Paganoni, member of the Alpine network Pro Patrimonio Montano and head of the sheep breeding station Ciuta in Veltin; Elisabeth Tauber, professor of Social and Alpine Anthropology at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano; Astrid Summerer, wandering shepherdess trained in Switzerland and working in Friuli-Venezia; G\u00fcnther Unterthiner, head of the State Forestry Department; Giovanni Giovannini, head of the Office for Forestry and Fauna of the autonomous province Trentino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
