Wikiwolves: Volunteer help for livestock protection<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\nVarious opinions and experiences<\/h2>\n\n
After a welcome from the LIFEstockProtect team, the meeting began with a presentation on the legal framework of the Habitats Directive in Europe. It is important to have a basic knowledge of these in order to understand the necessity of the livestock protection measures that LIFEstockProtect promotes. This was followed by a project update with the planned livestock protection courses, the certified sniffer dogs and the new volunteer program. <\/p>\n\n
Next up were the grazing livestock farmers from the project region. They shared information about their farms and their previous experiences with livestock protection measures. It was very interesting to hear the different perspectives of the farmers, especially because their farms were so different in location and structure. The exchange of knowledge definitely increased motivation for future work. <\/p>\n\n
Finally, the participants had the opportunity to ask questions and express their wishes for the project. The majority were concerned about the costs and emphasized the need for more financial support from the state governments. <\/p>\n\n
Events like this are important to support grazing livestock farmers and enable an exchange on herd protection issues. The high level of commitment from the farmers was impressive and made the meeting a success.
