Nell’ambito del progetto LIFEstockProtect, il team della European Wilderness Society<\/a> ha trascorso quasi tre settimane sul campo aiutando un pastore locale nella regione del Tirolo, in Austria, sostenendolo nella cura e gestione delle pecore nelle ultime settimane della stagione estiva. Alla fine di Settembre, hanno anche aiutato nella transumanza di oltre 200 pecore dagli “Alm”, gli alpeggi, fino a valle.<\/p>\n\n

L\u2019aiuto al pastore locale<\/h3>\n\n

Il team della European Wilderness Society \u00e8 arrivato a T\u00f6sens (un piccolo villaggio del Tirolo, Austria, al confine con la Svizzera) il 10 settembre e ha incontrato l’agricoltore locale Thomas Schranz. Insieme ad altri animali da fattoria, Thomas possiede pi\u00f9 di 200 pecore che durante l’estate porta a pascolare su pascoli alpini a 2500 m sul livello del mare. Ogni giorno i volontari si recavano ai pascoli per garantire il benessere delle pecore e controllare se la recinzione elettrica funzionava<\/a> e, se delle pecore erano in fuga, le riportavano nell’area recintata. Inoltre, hanno preparato il ritorno delle pecore a valle, chiamato “Almabtrieb”. Questo segna la fine della stagione estiva e l’inizio della stagione invernale. I preparativi comprendevano la rimozione delle recinzioni inutilizzate e l’apprendimento dei trucchi pastorali per il grande viaggio gi\u00f9 dalla montagna.<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Durante il soggiorno di volontariato in Tirolo, la squadra ha dormito in una capanna mobile costruita appositamente per i pastori. Si tratta di una piccola capanna adatta a 4 persone. C’erano due stanze dotate di letti a castello e un soggiorno con tavolo da pranzo e bruciatore a legna, il tutto in meno di 20 m\u00b2. Il team ha testato questa capanna prima della prossima stagione, quando inizier\u00e0 la Rete di Lavoro dei Volontari<\/a> di LIFEstockProtect che aiuter\u00e0 Thomas con le sue pecore.<\/p>\n\n

I lupi stanno ritornando in Austria<\/h3>\n\n

La regione del Tirolo \u00e8 caratterizzata da ripide montagne con pascoli alpini utilizzati dagli allevatori locali per l’allevamento di bestiame – pecore, capre e mucche. Recentemente il Tirolo ha confermato la presenza di otto esemplari di lupo e per questo \u00e8 estremamente importante utilizzare misure di protezione efficaci per evitare le predazioni sugli animali da parte dei lupi. Queste misure includono recinzioni elettriche, cani da guardiania e la presenza permanente dei pastori.<\/p>\n\n

Poich\u00e9 il progetto LIFEstockProtect, recentemente approvato, si concentra sulla protezione del bestiame e la coesistenza tra allevatori e fauna selvatica, siamo desiderosi di acquisire esperienza pratica su questo argomento. Ogni giorno, il team a T\u00f6sens ha imparato a conoscere il lavoro e le esigenze degli allevatori di pecore, avendo anche avuto colloqui con altre parti interessate come agricoltori locali, uomini d’affari e rappresentanti del turismo. Hanno ascoltato i loro problemi e le loro paure e hanno risposto alle domande sul progetto, facendo anche conoscere esempi di buone pratiche sugli strumenti che aiutano la protezione delle greggi<\/a>. La cosa pi\u00f9 importante \u00e8 che hanno sostenuto un agricoltore locale sensibile alla natura con manodopera necessaria da tempo. \u00c8 stato un grande esempio per gli altri allevatori dato che i volontari possono dare un grosso contributo e che la sola presenza degli stessi nei pascoli \u00e8 una misura efficace di protezione del bestiame<\/a>.
