Transnational LIFEstockProtect project offers an online program with practitioners, projects and discussion rounds for two days from 21-22.11.2022. A final excursion day rounds off the program with a demonstration of sniffer dogs and an insight into the use of livestock guarding dogs in Bavaria.
livestock protection in cattle and horse husbandry is the main topic of this year’s conference of the LIFEstockProtect project. “The topic of livestock protection has been present in sheep and goat farming for longer than among owners of larger grazing animals,” says Otto Gasselich, BIO AUSTRIA NÖ/W. Now interest and awareness is also increasing for farms with cows and horses. “We were able to attract speakers from different areas for the conference, and it’s not just about cattle and horses – livestock protection is always the same in terms of the basics.”
Speakers from Italy, Austria and Germany will present projects, initiatives and experiences with livestock protection measures. “We also want to present various livestock protection options to the participants online and facilitate an exchange,” says Otto Gasselich.
For example, the projects “livestock protection an Deich und Steilhang” and “Pferd und Wolf” will be presented. Representatives from the three regions will discuss funding opportunities and will also be available for discussions with the public. Farm managers from cattle, horse and sheep farms will provide insights into their processes, implementation and experiences.
“The project, and therefore this conference, is based on the experiences of the farms that are already implementing livestock protection, are in the process of doing so or are even just considering it. The joint development and design of framework conditions for good, sustainable pasture animal husbandry are the cornerstone for this.” Otto Gasselich
