Conference Announcement: Shepherdesses in the Alps

This post is also available in: Deutsch Italiano

Active herding with a shepherdess, Shepherd and dog is probably one of the oldest forms of farming. However, it has slowly lost importance in German-speaking countries over the last few decades. Now it is gradually being brought back into the limelight, as herding is not only a form of livestock protection, but also brings numerous benefits for Livestock and the biodiversity of alpine pastures. Shepherds are characterized not only by their close relationship with their own animals, but also by their broad view of the entire ecosystem.

The Pastoralism and its revival also play a central role in LIFEstockProtect. That is why the next online conference will be dedicated to the topic of“Shepherdesses in the Alps – Insights into the Pastoralism “. On the afternoon of November 5, four shepherdesses from Germany, Austria and Italy will present their work to the audience and share their experiences. Participants will gain exciting insights into the profession, the challenges and the future of shepherding in the project region and beyond.

Following the success of the first trilingual livestock protection conference in January 2021, this conference will have a similar structure: The online format and simultaneous translation into German, Italian and English will allow everyone to participate, regardless of where they are located. The conference will be held via ZOOM and is of course free of charge, but registration is required. Registration is open, which means you can already secure your place. The detailed program with the speakers will be announced in September.
